Ugh.

My computer is finally working! No more going to school early just to post something! There's still a virus on my computer, but it won't do anything.. yet.

ANYWAY, it has been a difficult week, but the snow day was nice! I just don't really feel great, probably from not doing anything other than go to rehearsal (which was the only "fun" thing I did), eating sleeping, and doing homework.

It's probably from the lack of inspiration, but I just couldn't think of anything to write! I am frustrated, because I really want to finish everything when I can't!

Hopefully, some ideas will come soon!

This Week's Reading!

     This week, I read "The Diary of Anne Frank". I really liked it! When I asked about it, most of my friends said it was slow and they didn't really care for it. I read it anyway, and turns out that I'm really enjoying it! There are a lot of things I could relate to, and I learned more about the Holocaust.

   Anndd, "The Odyssey". It was okay, same as usual. For me, it's one of those books that if I read laying down, I'll fall asleep. Haha. It's not my favorite novel, that's for sure. There are parts that are interesting, but most of the time I feel like it's going really slow.

     "A Good Man is Hard to Find" was actually not that bad... Reading the other posts, most disliked it. A lot. I can see why, but the story wasn't entirely boring. The parts that were boring were when they were talking about "the Misfit", and when the grandmother was talking to him. I didn't like any of the characters except for the grandmother and the mom. Reason why: 1.) The grandmother wasn't boring. 2.) The mom was barely even a character. A background character. She didn't say much. I really, and I mean REALLY didn't like the dad and the children. It looked like the dad really hated the grandmother, which is not right, and he was just a "hater" in general. The children-- OMW. They were terrible. It's a good thing they're not real, otherwise I would punch them to the point of unconsciousness.. Okay, maybe not. But they were really rude. Like when the lady at Sammy Red's told June Star (the girl) that she was cute and how she would love to have a little girl like her, she simply replied that she wouldn't want to live in a dump like that (that's not exactly what she said, but you get the idea).
     What is wrong with that family?!

The Odessy: Book 5-8

     I'm not having the greatest day, so instead of having an intro with what I've done this week and etc., let's just start with my opinion on the Odessy so far.
      To my surprise, the book did actually get a little more interesting! Ulysses finally gets to leave, and Telemachus is pretty much the same. It seems like most of the time he's talking about the suitors and his father, which gets old. I think Ulysses is much more interesting to read about than Telemachus.
     I don't have much to say, as I'm not good at typing/writing out what I feel, so for now,

Just One (For Now)

     I am only reading one book at the moment. That is I am the Cheese by Robert Cormier. I haven't gotten much into it yet (which I really should), because of the lack of time due to a busy schedule. Anyway, so far it's about a boy who has to bike to Rutterburg, Vermont to see his father in the hospital. He has to take pills to boost his strength, but he decides not to take them and throws them away. That's how far I am (sadly). What confuses me is that there are some chapters that are "tape recordings", but not... I know that it's a conversation between two people. T and A. No names. I can tell that A is the main character, but I don't really understand who's T, and why does this come up randomly? These kind of chapters help me understand the main character's past and how he's feeling, but I don't understand what this "tape" this is. Is T a doctor? What is T??

      This week (if not, next week), I'm planning on starting The Hunger Games. I've heard so much about so many people, and it sounds really good. That's pretty much all I have to say.(:

The Odyssey: Book 1

     After reading The Odyssey by Homer, I had to go back and read it over again. I didn't really understand what was going on, and it was hard to follow. The book is written in old English, and I can understand some of it, but when I start to read at the pace I usually read at, I don't know what I've just read, and have to read it over again. I'm not sure whether or not I like it, but hopefully as I read more into the book, I'll understand it better and [maybe] enjoy it.

My Summer Reading

     Personally, I'd have to say that this summer went by WAY too fast. Attending dance camp which was held daily from 9:00 a.m. to around 8:15 p.m. (pretty hardcore, but fun), going to Chicago for vacation, getting ready for school, and doing a summer reading assignment that was given to me at the "last minute" gave me little time to read as much as I wanted to. Anyway, I managed to finish a few books. Here are some I've read over the summer.

      First off, I read Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer (for the second time, because I forgot what happened). I strongly disliked it, even though I think it was the best out of the four other books in the series. The book was like the others-- Bella's having "relationship problems", Edward and Jacob aren't accepting each other, and someone's after Bella. It's a "huge mystery" that the Cullens can't figure out, although you could easily tell who's after her.. I would tell, but that would be spoiling the book for anyone who hasn't read it (even though no one would want to read anything of the Twilight series). I'd recommend not reading this book more than once, because it's just a wast of your time.

     I have also read Deep Down Popular by Phoebe Stone. This book is okay, rating probably a 6 out of 10, MAYBE 6.5 out 10. It's about Jessie Lou Ferguson, who is the type of girl who sits alone at lunch everyday and is very tomboyish. She, of course, has an enormous crush on the most popular boy in town, Conrad Parker Smith. When he injures his leg, Jessie Lou is assigned to help him get home after school. Because he can't play soccer anymore, he gradually loses his popularity, so he and Jessie Lou start to hang out more. Andd, you'll have to read the book in order to find out if they ever become true friends, or if they loose their friendship entirely.

     Next, I have read A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly. I'd have to say it was slow at first, but as you get deeper into the story, it gets a lot better. Overall, it was pretty good. I actually enjoyed this one. The story is set in 1906, and is about sixteen-year-old Mattie Gokey. Mattie loves to read and write stories. Every day, she learns one word from the dictionary for the "word of the day" and uses it that day. If there is no word for something (like a feeling), Mattie would make one up. She has big dreams of going to a prestigious university to get an education. Desperate for money, Mattie takes a job at a hotel called the Glenmore. There, a hotel guest named Grace Brown asks her to burn a bundle of secret letters [which Mattie doesn't, and hides them]. Later, Grace's drowned body was found in the lake, and Mattie discovers that the letters held the truth about the murder.

     Another book that I've read is Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, which is about a boy who is in a stereotypical high school, which everyone must fit in, and out of "nowhere", some girl who called herself Stargirl waltzes in with strange outfits and is just different. She gives gifts to strangers, and sings to people on their birthdays. It's a huge shock to the school, and to find out how they react, you have to read the book.

     Two other books I have read over the summer were Things Not Seen by Andrew Clements (about a boy who becomes invisible) and A Dog's Life by Ann M. Martin (An autobiography of a dog who has been a stray most of her life).

     Most of the books I've read were pretty good, and I'm glad I was able to get in at least a little reading over the summer.
